The Dream

Mag’s Donuts & Bakery has been owned and operated by the Yen family since the 1980’s. At the helm of the operations is the family’s matriarch, Yean Chhaing Yen. Yean immigrated with her husband, Ning Yen, and newborn daughter in 1979

The Yen family came to the US with nothing more than the clothes on their backs and the hopes of achieving the “American dream.”

The Work

Yean and Ning worked multiple jobs to make ends meet when they arrived in the US. Yean worked at Mag’s Donuts during the day and was a seamstress at night while Ning was a janitor during the day and a donut baker at Mag’s at night. Yean and Ning eventually saved enough money to purchase Mag’s in the early 1980’s when the original owner retired (whom the donut shop is named after).
Mag’s Donuts has become an institution over the years, serving the families and community of Irvine for about four decades.

The Payoff

There are parents who come and buy boxes of our donuts to deliver to their kids, especially those who are away at college. These adults who use to enjoy our donuts now bring their kids the same sweet, delicious enjoyment to them. Young or old, Mag’s has something for everyone, especially those with a sweet tooth!
